Liver (also known as Hepar) is the largest gland present, which lie on the upper side of the abdominal region or cavity just below the muscular structure or diaphragm. Liver is the only organ in the body which does not produce any digestive juices it has the function of releasing bile components which are secreted by liver cells (or hepatocytes). The bile then further enters the bile canaliculi or bile capillaries (the network of tubular spaces which are present between the liver cells). The bile canaliculi then empties that into the small Hering's canals which are walled by cuboidal epithelium. These Canals are then poured down into the interlobular bile duct (also known as bile ductile) also walled by some epithelium called columnar epithelium. It transfers the bile into a pear shaped sac like structure which is attached to the posterior surface of the liver connective tissue called as the gall bladder. It also functions as a storage sac for bile secreted by the live and all other constituents involved. Rat and horse are some animals which do not possess a gall bladder.
