let me explain it with giving reasons.
In Living things, the smallest functional unit is a cell which usually smallest in our body. Then as a system - Cell => Tissues => Organs => Sytem.
In Non-Living Things, the smallest functional unit is atom or either - molecules. Atoms contain nucleus, and electrons around it.
Hence, it is said above,
living things are made up of cells while non living things are made up of atoms and molecules.

Yeah....... it's absolutely right that living organisms are composed of cells
But as you know everything around us is made up of atoms......!!!!
And so happens in the case of cells.........
The cells are too made up of atoms.........
And therefore...... rather than saying that every living organisms are made up of cells......... you can also define it as if they're made up of atoms!!!!!!.......
