Answer:

According to Law of Conservation of momentum :

Mass of bullet x velocity of bullet = Mass of gun x recoil velocity of gun

0.02 x 200 = 7.5 x recoil of gun

Recoil of gun = 0.02 x 200/7.5

                     = 0.53 m/s

Given

  • Mass of the Bullet = 0.02 kg
  • Mass of gun = 7.5 kg
  • Velocity of the bullet = 200 m/s

To Find

  • Recoil Velocity

Solution

● m₁u₁ + m₂u₂ = m₁v₁ + m₂v₂

● Note that the initial velocites, i.e u₁ and u₂ are 0 m/s

Recoil Velocity :

→ m₁u₁ + m₂u₂ = m₁v₁ + m₂v₂

→ 0 + 0 = (0.02 × 200) + (7.5 × v₂)

→ 0 = 4 + 7.5v₂

→ -4 = 7.5v₂

→ -4/7.5 = v₂

v₂ = 0.53 m/s

∴ The recoil velocity is 0.53 m/s
