The leadership failed to be a failure.. I dont

mind to say bahadur shah zafar is not a

warrior.I actually dont know.. But during the

revolt the emperor was already in his late

80s or 90s.. He was very old to lead such

a revolt with utmost activity and struggle.

Also he was not very well exposed to war

and battles unlike the previous emperors..As

you know a war is something mostly of

strategies...So if a better strategist who is

well exposed to military wars then india

would be on a positive side.. British was

already with better war strategists and also

experinced in many wars at that time in

different colonies..

The british used better ammunition. If so

indians had better artillery and arms than

british, then the war is already onesided with

Such a large forces.

British had immediate reinforcements

established and indian forces recovered

much slow..

But the main factors i would say is the arms

and strategies...If these were better with

indians then the 1857 revolt would have

wiped the british from the subcontinent..

But this revolt and failure of revolt gave path

to better strategies and plans which led to

independence in 1947
