The ratio of milk and water is 2 : 1.

In a mixture of 420 litres, the ratio of milk and water is 6 : 1. Now 120 litres of the water is added to the mixture.

We have to find the ratio of milk and water in the final mixture.

Let proportionality constant is x.

∴ The amount of milk present in the mixture = 6x

And the amount of water present in the mixture = x

Now, total amount of mixture = 420 litre

⇒amlunt of milk + amount of water = 420

⇒6x + x = 420

⇒x = 60

∴ The amount of milk present in the mixture = 6x = 6 × 60 = 360 litres

And the amount of water present in the mixture = x = 60 litres.

now 120 litres of water is added to the mixture.

so amount of water in new mixture = 60 + 120 = 180 litres

∴ the ratio of milk and water = 360 : 180 = 2 : 1

Therefore the ratio of milk and water is 2 : 1.

Given,

In a mixture of 420 liters, the ratio of milk and water is 6:1

Amount of water added = 120 liters

To find,

The ratio of milk and water in the final mixture.

Solution,

We can simply solve this mathematical problem using the following process:

Let us assume that, in the initial mixture, the amount of milk is 6x liters and the amount of water is x liters.

Now, according to the question;

The total volume of the initial mixture = 420 liters

=> (amount of milk) + (amount of water) = 420 liters

=> 6x + x = 420 liters

=> 7x = 420

=> x = 60

So, in the initial mixture, the amount of milk is 6x liters and the amount of water is x liters, that is, 360 liters of milk and 60 liters of water, respectively.

Now, in the final mixture;

the total amount of milk = 360 liters

the total amount of water

= (total amount of water in the initial mixture) + (amount of water added)

= 60 liters + 120 liters

= 180 liters

So, the ratio of milk and water in the final mixture

= (total amount of milk)/(total amount of water)

= 360 liters/180 liters

= 2/1 = 2:1

Hence, the ratio of milk and water in the final mixture is 2:1.
