 \bold{ \textsf{} \underline{ \bold{SOLUTION}}} :

TO DETERMINE

The Location of the following points on the cartesian plane

  • (0,a)

  • (a,0)

  • (-a, 0)

  • (0,-a)

EVALUATION

 \sf{}For \: any \: point \: \: (x, y)

Abscissa = x

Ordinate = y

Let us assume that a > 0

CHECKING FOR THE POINT (0,a)

For the point (0,a)

Abscissa = 0

Ordinate = a which is positive

So the point lies on Positive Y axis

CHECKING FOR THE POINT (a,0)

For the point (a, 0)

Abscissa = a which is positive

Ordinate = 0

So the point lies on Positive X axis

CHECKING FOR THE POINT (-a,0)

For the point (-a, 0)

Abscissa = - a which is negative

Ordinate = 0

So the point lies on Negative X axis

CHECKING FOR THE POINT (0,-a)

For the point (0,-a)

Abscissa = 0

Ordinate = - a which is negative

So the point lies on Negative Y axis
