Thalamus is convex and dome shaped. It refers to thick part of flower which is mentioned as receptacle or torus. It is modifies stem as it possess the distinct nodes and antinodes.
The nutrients are supplied to flower, similar to function of stem transferring in to leaves. In certain cases like pome and strawberry, these receptacle gives rise to edible part of fruit.
