1. Left many stranded- As a curfew was announced suddenly, it left many people stranded. Those away from home- students, employees, people on visits,etc. were left stranded with no way to reach back home.
2. Affected the migrants the most- Migrants lost their jobs overnight. With no jobs, they could not earn their daily wages. They had no means of sustenance and had to head back to their home states. With no public transport, they covered hundreds of kilometres on foot. The suffering was immense.
3. Devastated the economy- With everything coming to a halt, most people had to deal with financial crisis of sorts. Jobs were lost, businesses closed and no money was being generated. The food industry lost a lot due to material getting expired during these months, while the tourism and aviation industries hit rock bottom.

In favour of the lockdown:

1. Reduced the spread of the infection- With the lockdown in place, movement was restricted and the spread of the infection was controlled. Particular areas could be identified as hot spots, unlike Italy, where the infection spread everywhere due to no lockdown during the initial weeks.
2. Spread of awareness- This time period was used well by the government to spread awareness about the disease. People had time to listen and understand the seriousness of the issue.
3. Gave the governments some extra time to brace for impact- The lockdown period allowed the various governments to get protocols in place, access their healthcare systems and even make arrangements like setting up temporary quarantine centres at army bases and ICU units in railway carriages.
