It depends which base you are considering...

We usually use two bases with log.

One is base 10...log with base 10 is called Common log which commonly used in chemistry because powers of 10 can be easily solved...

Other is base ' e '... log with base e is called Naperian Log or Natural Log...which is another method to calculate log..Log with base e usually use mathematics.
The value of e = 2.718 approx which is actually an irrational number...

So if You are finding log100 with base 10 which is equal to 2 -> a rational number

But Log100 with base e is irrational number..
