Question 32:
Find the missing letter in the following question.
A B X
C D T
B F S
H D ?
(1) O (2) M (3) P (4) N
Answer:
1) O
Step-by-step explanation:
Before solving it, first write the numerical value of each alphabet. It's well known that there are 26 alphabets in english alphabet, which starts with A having number 1 and ends up at Z having number 26. So, by marking the alphabets as per their numerical values. We can say that-
A is at 1st place, B at 2nd, X at 24th, C at 3rd, D at 4th, T at 20th, F at 6th, S at 19th and H at 8th place.
→ A(1) B(2) X(24)
→ C(3) D(4) T(20)
→ B(2) F(6) S(19)
→ H(8) D(4) _(?)
Just pick up the corner alphabets i.e. A, X, H and ? and solve them.
In the upper half we multiply the middle alphabet with 2 and subtract it from the first alphabet of second series. Now, to get the value of other half of right corner. Add them, as B is already multiplied by 2 just by adding the middle alphabet of first series and last alphabet of second series we'll get the alphabet X.
A = B × 2 - C
X = B × 2 + T
Apply the same on lower half. To get the alphabet H, first multiply the upper first alphabet of lower portion series with 2 and then add alphabet D in it to get the resultant alphabet. Now, we're done with addition, what left is subtrcation. So, substract the S alphabet from D to replace the question mark.
H = B × 2 + 4
? = 19 - 4
(and at 15th position, O is present)
Therefore, the missing alphabet is O.
Shortcut method:
Pick the first alphabet from first column and last alphabet from last column. Now,
→ A = C - B or 1 = 3 - 2
→ ? = S - D = 19 - 4 = 15
Hence, the missing alphabet is O.
