The initial action of the non cooperation movement was due to the following ways:

  • Mahatma Gandhi launched the Satyagraha Movement in various places. These made the British supress the local nationalist and Mahatma Gandhi was bared from entering Delhi.
  • After the hartal movement, the General Dyer called fire upon innocent people who gathered in Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar.
  • After the chauri chaura incident, Gandhij felt that the Satyagrahis need to be trained well before they could perform any revolution.

The Non cooperation movement was supported by many people all over India, by the following ways:

  • Foreign goods were boycotted, liquor shops were picketed, and foreign clothes were burnt up hugely.
  • The import of foreign clothes halved between 1921 and 1922, it's value dropping from 102 crores to 57 crore rupees.
  • In many areas, traders and merchants refused to trade in foreign goods and sometimes even refused to finance foreign trade.
