apical meristem. A meristem at the tip of a plant shoot or root that produces auxin and causes the shoot or root to increase in length. Growth that originates in the apical meristem is called primary growth.

Apical Meristem is the region that divides cell located at the top of plant shoot and bottom of plant roots.

Some Artic plants have apical meristem that is positioned in the centre or below regions of plants.

It has function of encouraging cell division and provides the maintenance of plants growth & regeneration process.

The external coating of apical meristem is known as tunica and inner covering is corpus.
