Medieval period or the middle age began from 5th century and ended in 15th century in the west and for India it was from 8th to 18th century. This happened because the Gupta empire collapsed. Thus, ending the "period of ancient India" and the beginning of a period in which the rulers focused on themselves only

The Middle Ages, the medieval period of European history between the fall of the Roman Empire and the beginning of the Renaissance, are sometimes referred to as the "Dark Ages."

The Medieval period runs from the end of Late Antiquity in the fourth century to the English Renaissance of the late fifteenth century.

The 18th century is regarded as the beginning of the history of modern India because this was the century when European powers began to acquire political power in India. With this, the earlier Mughal era of Indian history came to an end
