• They could not get sufficient supply of raw cotton of good quality.


• When the American Civil War broke out and cotton supplies from the US were cut off, Britain turned to India. As raw cotton exports from India increased, the price of raw cotton shot up.


• Weavers in India were starved of supplies and forced to buy raw cotton at exorbitant prices. In this, situation weaving could not pay.

Indian weavers in the mid 19th century faced many problems.

⏩ The demand of hand loom weavers in India decreased due to the competition of Industry clothes.

⏩ Many Cloth Industries were developed in England which purchased the raw materials from India and weaved the clothes in England.

⏩ The Indian weavers could not competate with the clothes of England.

⏩ As, they are cheap and good in quality.

⏩ When the civil war broke out in America then the raw materials were send to England , this resulted the lack of raw materials to Indian weavers.

⏩ Due to this Indian weavers buy these goods in high price where mostly they could not buy them.

⏩ By the end of 19th century Indian weavers faced another problem as the textile industries were set up in India.

⏩ This resulted the life difficult to the weavers.
