Answer:

Fractional distillation is a method for separating a liquid from a mixture of two or more liquids. For example, liquid ethanol can be separated from a mixture of ethanol and water by fractional distillation. This method works because the liquids in the mixture have different boiling points.

Answer:

To separate alcohol from water fractional distillation technique. This technique is based on the difference in boiling points of the liquids. Alcohol and water have different boiling points.

The boiling point of alcohol is less than that of water. The boiling point of water is 100ºC and the boiling point of alcohol is 78.7ºC.

The mixture of alcohol and water is heated and the alcohol is first evaporated due to its low boiling point. Then the vapour is allowed to condense and cooled.

The liquid obtained after this step is collected in a beaker. This liquid is alcohol.

The same procedure is repeated for water.

Now both the liquids are separated.
