Romanticism referred to a cultural movement which sought to develop a particular form of national sentiment. They focussed on emotions, intuition and mystical feelings. Their effort was to create a sense of a shared collective heritage, a common cultural past as the basis of a nation. It describes the creation of the terms and their relation to each other, stating that romanticism helped to create nationalism. Romanticism, a movement in all of Europe, took the previous conventions and dismissed them, placing importance on emotion. However, in Germany, Romanticism had a nationalistic message as well.
