Longitudinals and latitudinal extent of India is almost 30°. Why is north south and east west extent in kilometres not the same?

It is so because as you go towards the north, the width of longitudes decreases as they all have to meet at one point, the north pole. On the other hand, latitudes are more like concentric circles, which is why they have a common width.
