Given :- Look at Andrea’s running journal. A 2-column table with 3 rows titled Total distance Andrea Ran (kilometers). Column 1 has entries Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Column 2 has entries 3.6, 4.705, 5.92. Explain how to add the three distances.

Solution :-

Andrea’s running journal is :-

Monday 3.6

Tuesday 4.705

Wednesday 5.92

Now, we need to add all three days distance .

So,

→ 3.6 + 4.705 + 5.92

separating whole number parts and fractional part of given decimals first,

→ (3 + 0.6) + (4 + 0.705) + (5 + 0.92)

now, adding whole number parts together and fractional parts together,

→ (3 + 4 + 5) + (0.6 + 0.705 + 0.92)

using extra zero's in fractional parts ,

→ 12 + (0.600 + 0.705 + 0.920)

→ 12 + 2.225

→ 12 + 2 + 0.225

→ 14 + 0.225

14.225 kilometers . (Ans.)
