Look at leaves of the plant on the shady side and compare it with the leaves on the sunny side. Or, compare the potted plants kept in the sunlight with those in the shade. Which of them has leaves that are darker green ? Why?

The leaves of the shaded side are darker green than those kept in sunlight due to two reasons:
(i) The chloroplasts occur mostly in the mesophyll cells along their walls for receiving optimum quantity of incident light.
(ii)The chloroplasts align themselves in vertical position along the lateral walls of high light intensity and along tangential wails in moderate light.

The leaves of the shady side will be darker green.

Reason :

It is important to note that one of the limiting factor of the process of photosynthesis is light.

The leaves that are present in the shady region receives very little light for performing photosynthesis. Whereas the leaves of the sunny side gets enough light.

So, the leaves of the shady side will have more amount of chlorophyll pigment as they are not used because of receiving little amount of light but the leaves of the sunny regions uses the chlorophyll pigment as they perform photosynthesis.
