Let us have some examples,

4/5=0.8

6/25=0.24

3/2=1.5

5/4=1.25

1/10=0.1

All the above examples are rational number with no common factors other than and having terminating decimal expansion.

If prime factors of q are 2,5 or their product then the rational numbers always have terminating decimal expansion.
