C.Potato cells contain dissolved solutes in their vacuoles approx equivalent to (isotonic with)  a  2.1% salt solution. If potato tissue is immersed in salt solutions at a higher concentration than this then they lose water by osmosis to the surrounding hypertonic solution. If potato is immersed in distilled water (hypotonic) the cells take in water to their vacuoles by osmosis and the vacuoles become full and fat (turgid).
