The magnitude of effort E and the value of the tensions T_1 and T_2 in the string is:

  • Force balance equation at the first pulley:

       T_1 + T_2 = (5+25) N =30 N ------(1)

  • As the string is same, T_1, T_2 and E are equal.

       T_1 =T_2 = E ----(2)

  • Solving equation (1) and (2), T_1 =T_2 =E=15N
  • Therefore, magnitude of E = value of T_1 = value of T_2 = 15N
