COMPLETE QUESTION

Look at the system of linear equations.What is the x–coordinate of the solution to the system of equations?

2x - 4y = - 8

-3x + 5y = 9

EVALUATION

Here the given system of equations are

 \sf{2x - 4y =  - 8 \:  \:  \:  \:  -  -  -  - (1)}

 \sf{ - 3x  + 5y =  9 \:  \:  \:  \:  -  -  -  - (2)}

( 5 × Equation 1 ) + ( 4 × Equation 2 ) gives

10x - 12x = - 40 + 36

 \sf{ \implies \:  - 2x =  - 4}

 \sf{ \implies \:  x =  2}

From Equation 1 we get

( 2 × 2 ) - 4y = - 8

 \sf{ \implies \:  4 - 4y =  - 8}

 \sf{ \implies \:  - 4y =  - 12}

 \sf{ \implies \:  y =  3}

Hence x = 2 , y = 3

Hence x–coordinate of the solution to the system of equations = 2
