Lotus leaves have a waxy coat.why?

The leaves are sometimes, and Lotusflowers always, raised above the water surface. ... The plant becomes water repellent because of the fact that thiswaxy coating of both the leaves and stem surfaces is hydrophobic, meaning that it repels water and does not get itself wet.

Because this is aquatic plant they float on water. There leaves are not decomposed that is why
