The Lumiere (pronounced ) brothers, Augusta Marie Louis Nicolas (19 October 1862, France – 10 April 1954, and Louis Jean 5 October 1864, Besan On, France – 7 June 1948, Bandolier), were among the first filmmakers in history. They patented an improved cinematograph, which in contrast to Thomas Edison's "peepshow" kinetoscope allowed simultaneous viewing by multiple parties.
