We live in a strange world. A cruel world. An amazing world. We live in a society where people stop loving in fear of losing love. As a result, we run away from what means the most to us. The power of love has such resounding strength that it elicits fear. Why try if it will only lead to heartbreak? Lots of people, high school students especially, ask this question. The idea of dating turns off many high school students, like myself, and with good reason. With different paths taken by everyone after high school, relationships are nothing short of a gamble. The quote, “it is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all,” seems like just a silly old saying. This quote implies that humans take change well. They take change well if it occurs on their own terms, they do not want change to happen to them, they want to cause the change. People finally become content with their love life, but then run away due to fear of losing it; fear of heartbreak. It pains me to say it, but one of my biggest fears is heartbreak.
