What Is LSA?

LSA stands for Learning Support Assistant. Learning support assistants usually work with students who have special needs, or don't speak English to help them cope with the classroom environment. This is usually on a one-to-one basis and is meant to help the student and take some extra responsibility off the teacher.

What Does An LSA Do?

Different levels of LSAs will have different responsibilities. While a level 1 LSA will have a more general support role, a level 2 LSA will usually have more specific responsibilities involving providing support to specific students.

Different responsibilities of an LSA can include

Helping children prepare for activities and external classes like PE

Comforting students when they are upset

Helping students with their hygiene

Helping the teacher plan lessons

Help students who are struggling in class

Supervising students on the playground
