a lubricant is a substance which is used to lubricate any object or components of engine

Lubricating metals with gold or even oil can protect its surface from corrosion

A lubricant also decreases the friction between two surfaces by filling the irregularities between them.

this is the reason why you slip your leg when you walk on oily surfaces.

Hope it helps you!
