SOLUTION

GIVEN

Luiza delivers newspapers in her neighborhood. If you plot the points (−1, 1), (4, 1), (4, −2) and (−1, −2), you will create a representation of the route she takes, in miles.

TO DETERMINE

The distance ( miles ) Luiza's route covers

EVALUATION

Here it is given that Luiza delivers newspapers in her neighborhood. If you plot the points (−1, 1), (4, 1), (4, −2) and (−1, −2)

Graph : Graph is referred to the attachment

We plot the points on the graph as A(−1, 1), B(4, 1), C(4, −2) and D(−1, −2)

Joining the points we get a rectangle ABCD

Where AB = CD = 5 miles

BC = AD = 3 miles

So length of the rectangle = 5 miles

Breadth of the rectangle = 3 miles

So the distance ( miles ) Luiza's route covers

= Perimeter of the rectangle

= 2 × ( 5 + 3 ) miles

= 2 × 8 miles

= 16 miles
