Lungs do not collapse after a forceful expiration because, there are the cartilaginous rings that are present for the support of the lungs. The rib cage also helps in the keeping up of the lungs and diaphragm....

Hope it helps...

The lungs do not collapse even after forceful expiration as the lungs never become empty. There is always some amount of air left in the lungs which is known as residual volume.
