Lushkoff is the main character in the story The Beggar by Anton Chekhov.

The three lies of Lushkoff

First is that he says he is a poor student in need of money.

Second is that he lies he was a schoolmaster who has lost his job. There was a new job offer but he did not have money to travel.

The Third was that Lushkoff lies to Sergei that he chopped the woods to get the money although it was done by Sergei's maid Olga.

Lushkoff  lied thrice to Skvortsov, a Saint Petersburg lawyer.  He  first portrayed himself as a student who was expelled from the school and then after two days appeared at the door of Skvortsov begging on the pretext that he had been a schoolmaster who lost his job when officials on the Zemstvo, a local governing body, told lies about him. Now  that he has a job offer in Kaluga province but has no money to travel there
