It is thought that the reservoir of chemicals in the lysosome can be 'topped up' by supplies from the Golgi apparatus. The chemicals are manufactured in the endoplasmic reticulum, modified in the Golgi apparatus and transported to the lysosomes in vesicles (sealed droplets).
