Explanation-.

m^2 - 14m + 13 = 0

=> m^2 - (13+1) m + 13 = 0

=> m^2 - 13m - m +13 = 0

=> m (m-13) - 1 (m-13) =0

=> (m-13) (m-1) = 0

now

(m-13) = 0 or , (m-1) = 0

=> m=13. or, m=1
