Bivalent metal means that the valency of M is 2+.

The steps which must be followed to calculate the chemical formula of its compounds are-

•First, find the valency of the other radical/element.

•Considering any other element/radical N with a valency of x, the chemical formula of the resultant compound would be  MxN2  and if x is equal to 2-, then the chemical formula would be MN.

So, the chemical formula of it’s compound formed with sulphate (SO4) and phosphate (PO4) would be :

SO4 : Sulphate radical has a valency of 2-. Hence, the the formula would be MSO4

PO4 : Sulphate radical has a valency of 3-. Hence, the the formula would be M3(PO4)_2
