It quadruples. Remember that the kinetic energy is defined as KE=12mv2 so if you have twice the velocity for the same mass, the kinetic energy will be four times the original value. You can see this mathematically as well by substituting 2v (twice the initial velocity) for v in the equation:.

When velocity is increased 3 times
>> 1/2m(3v)^2
9×1/2mv^2
