The value of (m+n)/(m-n) = 14

Given:

m : n = 5 : 9

To find:

The value of (m+n)/(m-n)

Solution:

Given that m : n = 5 : 9

⇒ m/n = 5/9

Given  \frac{(m+n)}{(m-n)}

Take n common from both numerator and denominator

\frac{(m+n)}{(m-n)} = \frac{n(\frac{m}{n}+1)}{n(\frac{m}{n} -1)}

⇒  \frac{n(\frac{m}{n}+1)}{n(\frac{m}{n} -1)}

⇒  \frac{(\frac{m}{n}+1)}{(\frac{m}{n} -1)}

Substitute, m/n = 5/9 in above problem

= \frac{(\frac{5}{9}+1)}{(\frac{5}{9} -1)}

= \frac{(\frac{5+9}{9})}{(\frac{5-9}{9} )}

= \frac{5+9}{5-4} = 14/1 = 14

The value of (m+n)/(m-n) = 14
