M parallel lines in a plane are intersected by a family of n parallel lines, find the number of parallelograms that can be formed.

Hey,

First, x and y must be >/= 2 for there to be at least one parallelogram.

Nest, as x increases by one, so do the number of parallelograms increase by one.

But if y increases by one the number of parallelograms doubles.

Being algebraically challenged, I will now let those so inclined to take this to completion.
