Answer:

Soil erosion --- the removal of topmost fertile layer of soil is known as soil erosion . This may happen due to various reasons like running water , wind , deforestation , human activities , grazing animals , etc .

The impacts of soil erosion other than loss of topmost fertile layer are soil salinity , loss of nutrients , the soil eroded goes to rivers and other water bodies and make water unfit for survival . it may even clog small water bodies .

Planting trees is the most effective way to prevent it .

What are the consequences?

Effects of soil erosion are numerous and can occur on- or off-site from the erosion source.

On-site erosion effects include:

Loss of soil fertility from field affecting crop yields

Destruction of infrastructure, such as tracks and roads

Pollution of watering points for livestock

Off-site erosion effects include:

Flash floods downstream of the erosion site

Water pollution

Sedimentation of water reservoirs
