m² - 2(5/2)m = -3

now add (b/2)² = 25/4 on both sides

(m)² - 2(1)(5/2) + 25/4 = -3 + 25/4

(m)² - 2(1)(5/2) + (5/2)² = 13/4

[ m - 5/2 ]² = 13/4

m - 5/2 = √(13/4) = (√13)/2

m = 5/2 + (√13)/2
