Question:-

Factorise m² + 6m + 8

Method Used:-

Middle term splitting

Answer:-

We need to split 6m into two such that their sum is equal to 6(coefficient of m) and their product is 8 (1 * 8 i.e, coefficient of m² * constant term)

So we can split 6m as 4m + 2m

Their sum is 4 + 2 = 6

Their product is 4 * 2 = 8

Hence all conditions are satisfied

Thus,

m² + 6m + 8

=> m² + 4m + 2m + 8

=> m(m + 4) + 2(m + 4)

=> (m + 4)(m + 2)

Ans. (m + 4)(m + 2)
