m² + (m/2) + (1/4)² = 3/2 + (1/4)² [ add [(coefficient of x)/2]² to both sides ]

=> (m + 1/4)² = 3/2 + 1/16

=> (m + 1/4)² = (24 + 1)/16

=> (m + 1/4)² = 25/16

=> m + 1/4 = ±5/4 [ take square root on both sides ]

=> m = +5/4 - 1/4 = 4/4 = 1

and m = -5/4 - 1/4 = - 6/4 = - 3/2
