"mai bechoonga" does not have to depend on any other sentence to make its meaning clear. That's why it's a main clause.
On the other hand -- saying "to bikenge" gives a sense of incompleteness. The listener will not understand what the speaker is saying if you only just say " to bikenege". So this clause depends on the first clause to make its meaning clear. That's why it's dependant clause.
