मुंशी प्रेमचंद जी ने लगभग एक दर्जन उपन्यासों एवं तीन सौ कहानियों की रचना की उन्होंने 'माधुरी' एवं 'मर्यादा' नामक पत्रिकाओं का सम्पादन किया तथा 'हंस' एवं 'जागरण' नामक पत्र भी निकाले। उनकी रचनाएँ आदर्शोन्मुख यथार्थवादी हैं, जिनमें सामान्य जीवन की वास्तविकताओं का सम्यक् चित्रण किया गया है।
