The greet him with three titles. First, they regard him as the Thane of Glamis, a title that Macbeth had already held before the battle. This greeting comes as no surprise. Next, they greet him as the Thane of Cawdor. Though Macbeth is not aware of it yet, he has been granted this title by Duncan for his great victory. Finally, they hail him as the future king.
