Answer:

Every thinker is supposed to be a child of his time.

But it suits Machiavelli the most.

The phrase implies that he was influenced by his time.

For example : He is also called 'Child of his time'

because he belonged to a time when medival age was coming to an end and modern age was about to start , also known as Renaissance.

Explanation :

During the age of Renaissance the most important change was the rise of Nation-state.

But Italy (as he belonged to Italy) was not a nation-state. Italy was dominated by the Church , which was corrupted by the officials , pope and king.

Therefore , Machiavelli suggested separation of religion and politics and supports the idea of nation-state.
