Maddie or Madeline actually wanted to stop Peg or Peggy from teasing Wanda but she couldn't muster up the courage to do so. She herself was a poor girl . She used to wear Peggy's old clothes which were reformed by her mother with some decorating stuff so that they appear new one.. Now Maddie was thinking if she tried to stop her or refused her to be the part of teasing game she would be a new target for Peggy and other girls like her.... Thus she didn't want to stop her friend Peggy.
