Madhavi purchased a saree for rupees 2072 including 12% VAT (Value added tax). Find the price before VAT was added.

Given,
Purchased Price= 2072 Rs

Purchased price= Actual price+VAT
=> 2072 = Actual Price+ 12% of Actual price.

Say actual price be x
=> 2072= x + (12% of x)
=> 2072= x + [(12/100) × x]
=> 2073= x +0.12x
=> 2073= 1.12 x
=> x= 2073/1.12= 1850 Rs.
