Madhu's flower garden is now a square. If she enlarges it by increasing the width 1metre and the length 3metres,the area will be 19sq metres more than the present area. Whati is the length of a side now?

Basically if we consider the length at the moment to be x and the width to be x too as square has same sides. The new length and width would be x+3 and x+1.

So basically now we can see (x+3)*(x+1) = x^2 + 19 as the new area is 19 metres more. So x^2 + 3x + x + 3 = x^2 + 19 which becomes 4x = 16 so x = 4.

So the length of a side now is 4+3 = 7 meters.
