Answer:

The story expresses the racial and caste- class discrimination, which goes in the mind of protagonist ‘ krishnankutty’ and how he is a victim of class-caste alienation. He worked hard and now he is economically stable but yet he cannot move upwards in the society or still facing identity crises as he belongs to lower caste. Throughout the story one can see the identity crises of the protagonist as now he belongs to upper middle class and lives in a high society still his past is deep rooted within. Also there is a racial, caste, class disparity stated in the story. What I feel is that krishnankutty tries to escape from reality. He neither belongs to the upper class nor wants to be in the lower class. He resides in quarters where there are majority of upper class people. His daughter has company with girls of upper class. Only he feels inferior, neither his wife nor his daughter feels the separation as they belong to the upper class. He is stuck between upper class and lower caste. The protagonist experiences helplessness in this story. So the story can be considered as the journey of krishnankutty’s mind, how he is a victim of identity crises
