the reaction between magnesium and copper sulphate ... The copper in copper sulfate, CuSO4, is in the +2, or cupric oxidation state, so the other product of the cupric ion reduction then would be magnesium sulfate. But MgSO4 is a white solid and dissolves as a clear solution.
